What can YEC do for you?

As a student interested in science, engineering or technology, you’ll find that Young Engineers Clubs can take you out of the classroom and into the real world. Through joining a club or entering the Young Engineers Clubs Scotland Showcase and Technology Challenge (Celebration of Engineering) event, you’ll find yourself working with teachers and other students who share your interests in a friendly and informal environment.

  • meet and work with professional engineers on projects that have real significance.
  • experience all the elements of the engineer’s job:
  • identifying needs,
  • analysing problems,
  • conducting research,
  • developing a specification,
  • making and testing the product.
  • you’ll develop your skills,
  • network with engineering industries and get a real feel for life as an engineer in the exciting world of science, engineering and technology.
  • Most of all you’ll have fun.

As a teacher you are invaluable to the Young Engineers Clubs:

  • You become the prime motivator for young  people who join the club or enter the competitions,
  • you act as the main interface between the school or college and local industry. Hard work, but the rewards are great.
  • You receive the support and expertise of local industry and engineers, thus enabling you to undertake a wide range of science, engineering and technology and challenge projects with additional confidence.
  • You benefit personally from new insights into industry and the chance to update your knowledge.

The benefits to schools & colleges are varied and considerable, ranging from:

  • positive publicity to additional funding.
  • students will benefit considerably from having a dedicated organisation that realises and promotes their interest in science, engineering and technology.
  • Young Engineers Club activities enhance the curriculum by demonstrating the wide range of subjects that are involved in engineering - from Science and Mathematics to Art and History.
  • the links that you will form with local industry will be of great benefit to the school.
  • students will establish working relationships with potential future employers and schools often receive additional funding or equipment from the companies who support the Young Engineers Clubs.
  • local industry and other engineering professionals will support your teachers, plus Young Engineers Clubs are a positive part of their career development.
