Provide financial support
There are, currently, two main levels of Young Engineers Clubs Scotland sponsorship: Principal Partnership and Associate Partnership. We currently have five Principal Partners who contribute towards core funding and have the opportunity to host their own challenges: BAA Scotland, BP, Lloyds Register Educational Trust, OPITO and Shell. There are also 15 Associate Partners who provide financial assistance to Young Engineers Clubs Scotland. Principal Partners receive substantial publicity from their association with Young Engineers Clubs Scotland and benefit from having their own unique component of the Young Engineer’s Clubs Scotland programme.
Young Engineers Clubs Scotland is keen to hear from potential partners and donors interested in Principal or Associate Partnership, as well as companies wishing to form an alliance with others from similar disciplines (civil and construction engineering for example) in order to host a discipline-specific challenge, or those who simply identify with our cause and would like to be associated with us.
Provide in-kind support
Young Engineers Clubs Scotland is always seeking new sponsors/providers of materials and resources, whether this is in the provision of raw materials to schools or facilitating visits from Clubs to tour your premises.
Release staff to support Young Engineer Clubs
The most successful individual Young Engineers Clubs Scotland have links to local engineering companies. As well as often supplying modest, but crucial financial support to individual clubs, these companies often form relationships with the clubs. Link engineers, attending club sessions regularly, or when required for trouble-shooting, are an important link for clubs to the engineering community and allow them to form relationships with actual engineers and learn about what they do. Club visits to company premises also increase students’ awareness of the profession. Companies can become involved directly with clubs in their area, or sign up to the STEMPOINT Science and Engineering Ambassador scheme.
In order to develop the network further and assist in addressing the specific needs of the individual clubs, SCDI intends to put together a network of Regional Assistants who will work at a local level, involving themselves with clubs in an agreed territory with the aim of supporting and encouraging these clubs and reporting to SCDI on the activity, assessment of needs and quality of the experience for young people. Assistants are seconded part-time from their companies to this project and salaries will continue to be paid by the seconding companies. Appropriate insurance cover will be arranged by SCDI. Such in-kind support is already being provided by FMC, Lifescan, Rolls Royce, Rio Tinto Alcan, Morrison Construction and SELEX.
Event sponsorship for the Celebration of Engineering
This flagship event for Young Engineers Clubs is held in June each year, involving over 600 young engineers, teachers and companies. Event sponsors are sought as well as companies to set technology challenges for participating clubs.
Sponsorship and support for local events
It is planned to introduce regional events during the 08/09 session. Help with venues, event sponsorship and challenges is required.
